Sunday School News

Can you hear the music?

The Sunday school children will be singing in church on October 19, 2008 and November 16, 2008 at the 10:15 a.m. service.  As is traditional here at First UMC the children will sing after the children’s sermon.  We are really looking forward to having the children become more involved with the church service this year.  Look for more singing dates throughout the winter and spring!

Bible Presentations

This year the children who are in 3rd grade will receive their NRSV Bible on October 26th during the 10:15a.m. Worship service.  We are still in the process of gathering Inspirational Friends for this very special day.  Inspirational friends are responsible for presenting the Bible to the child in church.  Many times they continue their relationship with the child through birthday cards and contact at church.

Confirmation 2008-2009

Confirmation round up is coming!  If your child is in 7th or 8th grade please plan to attend the confirmation meeting on Sunday, October 5, 2008 after the 10:15 a.m. Worship service.  Pastor Noah will be leading this class.

Teach us how to pray

Prayer is an important part of every Christian person’s life.  This fall, our curricular theme for the children’s Sunday school classes is the power of prayer.  We will be spending 6-8 weeks at the beginning of our year focusing on this theme.  Look for special communion flat bread from the children the week of October 19, 2008.

Christmas Program

The children’s Christmas program will be on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the 5:30 Praise Service.  As is tradition, there will a dinner following the performance.

Adult Sunday School Classes

Are you excited about your Christian journey and you want to share your experience?  Do you have a child in Sunday school and you are looking for a class for yourself?  Are you looking for a comfortable place to share your views about faith and the world around you? We have two adult Sunday school classes here that may be right for you!

Explorers – This faith based class is led by Jim Shinn. Jim is an experienced lay speaker, and an expert teacher.  Jim’s class discusses biblical questions as well as exploring how we can relate today’s world to biblical experiences.

Round Table – This social Sunday school class uses an internet curriculum to lead discussions about how we as Christians can find our place to have faith in today’s world. Every member of Round Table is offered the opportunity to lead this discussion group.

If you are thinking about joining one of these groups all you need to do is have faith, take the first step and show up.  The rest is easy.
